REVIEM FILM EX MACHINA [2014]
Ex Machina film
is a sci-fi (Science-Fiction) film that has topic about A.I (Artificial
Intelligence), this film also tell us about the existence of artificial
intelligence and how their presence in the world. This film reflects a robot
that has very high intelligence, ability to do interaction with human, has the
ability to influence humans and has the ability to manipulate someone’s mind.
Caleb (played by Domhnall Gleeson) is a programmer and regular employee on Bluebook, the most popular search engine company in the world (similar to Google) that won the competition held by his genius CEO named Nathan (played by Oscar Isaac). The reward of the competition is an opportunity to spend a week with Nathan in his luxury house in Alaska.
When Caleb arrived there, Caleb was informed that he not supposed to have a holiday, but as an agent of the "Turing Test", a test that managed by Nathan to test A.I. the newly built high-tech in the form of a beautiful face robot named Ava (played by Alicia Vikander). Caleb has the duty to make verbal contact with Ava and test the perfection of Ava as A.I. like humans.
Through to 7 session of testing, this film reveals all secrets through planned and planned scenarios. Each story layer is presented one by one which reveals that Nathan and Ava have their own agenda.
It starts from Caleb, who has just realized the perfection of technology in Ava, where she can respond to human talks formally or slang like when Caleb said "Break the Ice". Ava can also control electricity at Nathan's house, so that in some time Nathan cannot control the activities she does.
Caleb is an orphan and single (he is not in any love-relationship), and it was the reason that made him easily influenced by Ava. Ava also succes to convience Caleb that she was impress to like him and influenced Caleb to take him out of Nathan's house and live in human life normally. Nathan has also programed Ava with the parable of a rat (Representation of Robot Ava) which is trapped in the labyrinth (Nathan's house) and has the goal to get out of the labyrinth somehow. Until finally Nathan was killed by his masterpiece technology created along, while Caleb was locked in Nathan's house because of his naivety who had trusted a robot that was too intelligent.
With a storyline that only focuses on 3 people (with the addition of one supporting character as Nathan's personal servant), this film feels like a theater drama, which is played brilliantly by the three actors. Not only does it convince us that the three interact as fellow geniuses, they also carry the emotional weight demanded by each character.
The most striking part is the role of Nathan, a young-genius who has character complexity. Nathan’s Vision is uses the Bluebook database not for commercial purposes but rather to make A.I. super sophisticated. Behind his relaxed, humorous manner, and occasionally drunk, there;s something hidden that well by Nathan.
Caleb's role was the depiction of an innocent and almost ignorant audience. Caleb was a genius nerd, but he didn't understand what was happening and what was being planned by the people around him. Mature in logic, but mentally naive. He was also easily influenced by the robot's ingenuity that influenced him to oppose Nathan.
Ex Machina has a smart dialogue that makes the audience think and trying to understandt the groove well but is easy to understood. Plot twist is quite a lot, and can provide a great understanding for the audience about the influence of technological sophistication in the future amidst human life
This story can represent well how dangerous the technological sophistication can control the life of its own creator (human). At this time even technology has affected humans in many fields, it is necessary to have limitations for the sophistication of technology in the future so that the continuity and balance of humans is still maintained.
In my opinion, technological sophistication is intended to help human work in completing its tasks. But as long as humans still have the ability and strength to do it with their effort , it's better to do it themselves by balancing the technological sophistication that exists.
Even if the technology is made so sophisticated it will make humans in the future will be more spoiled by technology and result in people less trying to reach something in their lives, also minimizing human performance going forward.
Human and Computer Interaction lesson have a role to design, evaluate and implement systems with users that aim to simplify user work efficiently and according to user needs in general. Human Computer Interaction focuses on the interaction of the relationship between the system and the user where there is a request and response between the two, without reducing the role of the user itself or even removing the role of the user.
